Several insurers offer term life policies without a medical test for sum assured up to Rs 50 lakh for buyers under age 35-40 with no declared health conditions. The tradeoff: premiums are slightly higher and exclusions are stricter.
Which insurers skip the medical test
HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Super: No medical for sum assured up to Rs 50 lakh, age under 35, non-smoker.
Tata AIA Sampoorna Raksha Supreme: No medical for eligible profiles. Instant policy issuance.
ICICI Pru iProtect Smart: No medical for certain age and sum assured combinations. Same-day policy issuance available.
Max Life Smart Secure Plus: Video KYC required for higher sum assured, but certain profiles get medical waiver below Rs 50 lakh.
The risk of skipping the medical
Buying without a medical creates risk for your nominee. If you pass away and the insurer discovers an undisclosed health condition, it can reject the claim on grounds of material misrepresentation.
The safest approach: declare all health conditions accurately, even if it means a slightly higher premium. A disclosed condition cannot be used to reject a future claim.
When it makes sense
No-medical term plans are practical for:
Young, healthy buyers under 35 who want fast policy issuance
Smaller sum assured (Rs 25-50 lakh) as a starter cover
Buyers who want to avoid clinic visits
For Rs 1 crore+ cover or buyers over 40, expect a medical test regardless of insurer. The process takes 1-2 hours at a diagnostic centre arranged by the insurer, at no cost to you.
